This page is all about what I've learned so far concerning the
ADJ controller called: "Wifly NE1"

This is not an ADJ site, just a blog site put together by a guy who likes this controller.  As much as I like this controller, I know the hardest part is getting this controller setup initially.  After that, it's fairly easy and straight forward.

A good starting place with using this controller is understand what it actually is.  At the time I write this, there is actually nothing else like it on the market... period.  People want to think this is either a full DMX controller where they build all their own chases scene by scene, or some kind of universal remote that requires no setup, and is just plug and play.  It's neither.

For many of us mobile DJ's, the NE1 is the light controller we didn't no we needed.  I do want to say this carefully though, because it is not for everyone.

I've been searching for a single button scene change solution.  Why?  Because I am a mobile DJ, and I am also trying to mix music while managing the lights, and dealing with requests and other things.  I don't need to be fiddling with a handful of IRC remotes to make a lighting scene change while I am trying to mix music.  I would like to be able to push one button to change my light show between songs, and be done.

I've really liked the idea of going full DMX, but I also like to be able to make changes on the fly, using you standard hardware DMX controller isn't as friendly that way.  Also, traditionally using a DMX controller means creating your own chases, scene by scene by scene.  For every scene, you need to make sure the fixtures you don't want in the scene are getting a DMX signal to keep them turned off.  For all of the fixtures you do want in the scene, you have to figure out scene by scene what you want them to do.  Alternatively, the built in programs for a lot of fixtures are already pretty darn good, and generally work in any venue pretty good.  I'd like to be able to just use those.

I really needed something in between those worlds, giving me the flexibility to be able to point lights for static scenes, while also being able to access built in programs for simple light shows rather than having to build chases, and also being able to switch lights shows at the push of a button.  That's what the NE1 can potentially do.  While it primarily focuses on single scene light shows by accessing built in programs, the NE1 also has an shape/effect generator that can be used to create some very cool custom light shows.  Once you get past the initial challenge of getting the profiles you want properly loaded into the NE1 and setup, and your lights addressed properly, the NE1 gives you a lot more flexibility than the remotes did, or UC3 did, and it's also very easy to access and make changes on the fly.

The WiFly NE1 is like programmable universal light remote control that happens to use the DMX protocol.  ..And it also has Wifly/wireless DMX control as well as a normal 3 pin DMX output plug.
